Hyland Receives Distinguished Legislative Services Award

NEW BRUNSWICK—Stephen J. Hyland, a Cherry Hill resident and attorney with offices in Westmont and Pennington, was honored with the New Jersey State Bar Association's (NJSBA) Distinguished Legislative Service Award during the Association's Board of Trustees Meeting and Holiday Luncheon on December 7, 2007 at the NJ Law Center.

Mr. Hyland received the award for his service on the New Jersey Civil Union Review Commission. Appointed by Governor Corzine in 2007, he currently serves as the Commission's secretary. The NJSBA recognizes the solid expertise that Mr. Hyland brings to the Commission.

An NJSBA member since 2004, Mr. Hyland is a member of the Executive Committee of the GLBT Section, of which he was a founding member, and is also a member of the Real Property Trust & Estate Law and Elder Law Sections.

Mr. Hyland received his law degree from South Texas College of Law and concentrates his practice on estate planning and administration, same-sex couples law, domestic partnership law and elder law. The author of the book, New Jersey Domestic Partners: a Legal Guide, Mr. Hyland has also published numerous articles on estate planning and domestic partnership law, privacy law, computer law and Internet law. He is a frequent speaker on various legal issues. He also serves on the Family Practice Committee of the Administrative Office of the Courts.
