PA Governor Nominates Gay Man for Judgeship
April 20, 2007
Philadelphia, PA—Governor Edward G. Rendell nominated Dan Anders to the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas to fill the vacancy created when Justice James J. Fitzgerald III was elevated to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania from the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Anders is an attorney with the Philadelphia office of Pepper Hamilton LLP.
I am honored and humbled to receive this nomination from Governor Rendell,
said Anders. It will be an opportunity to serve the people of Philadelphia in a significant way and to assist in the delivery of justice in our courts.
Dan was running as a Democratic candidate for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, and had been endorsed by the Victory Fund. Dan received a recommended rating by the Philadelphia Bar Association. His campaign has been endorsed by many labor unions and community organizations.
Dan's legal work and community service have won him high praise from his peers in the legal and business communities. In 2005, Anders was named a Lawyer on the Fast Track by the Philadelphia Legal Intelligencer. In 2004, the Philadelphia Business Journal named him one of the Forty Under 40, a list of young professionals on the move in Philadelphia.
In 2004, the Pennsylvania Bar Association recognized Anders with the Pro Bono Service Award. The recognition was well-deserved considering he spends an average of 300 hours a year providing free legal advice and counsel to community organizations and needy individuals.
I've adhered to the values of justice, fairness and service during my career as a lawyer,
added Anders. Now I'll make them the standard for my career as a judge.
Anders nomination is subject to confirmation by the State Senate of Pennsylvania.
