Atlantic County Freeholders Delay DP Vote

January 25, 2006

ATLANTIC CITY — Just one day before Ocean County voted to extend domestic partner benefits to its employees, Atlantic County's Board of Chosen Freeholders delayed a final vote on its resolution adopting benefits.

Several Atlantic County residents demonstrated that one doesn't need to be from the South to be a bigot, Cologne resident Bob Murray spoke against the resolution. It's not the person," he said, "it's the sin. It isn't clear whether Mr. Murray then threw a stone or two at the gay couple sitting next to him.

Chrissie Martin, a West Atlantic City resident claiming to represent American families, or at least, the families those bigots at the American Family Association claim to represent, said What's next? Where do you draw the line? What about marriage?

The freeholders voted 6-2 to table the matter for now to study it further, including the costs involved. No time was set for a renewed vote.
