Daily Record Gets It Right

October 24, 2005

MORRISTOWN—The Daily Record got it exactly right in their opinion of 10/23/05.

A resident of Long Hill Township was charged with a bias crime when he placed an anti-marriage equality bumper sticker on Gina Genovese's bumper. Genovese is an openly-gay member of the township council.

Some people think it was overkill to charge township resident George Dengler with a crime. But the Daily Record is right. Dengler is free to place such a bumper sticker on his property but not on that of another person, and doing so on Gennovese's car is harrassment amounting to a bias crime. Send an email to the paper and thank them. And send an email to Police Chief Michael Peoples for treating it as a crime.
