Provincetown, Mass. Continues Issuing Out-of-state Licenses

May 27, 2005

PROVINCETOWN, MA. — One year into the implementation of the Goodridge decision, Provincetown continues to issue licenses to out-of-state same-sex couples intending to reside in Massachusetts.

According to information on the town website, out-of-state couples can obtain marriage licenses in Provincetown, despite the state's prohibition. The city has taken the reasonable position that they will not question a couple's declaration of "intent to reside" in Massachusetts, regardless of whether the couple is a same-sex or opposite-sex couple.

For more information, see the town's website at www.provincetowngov.org.
